Bully bosses are toxic! Their abusive speech and other bad behavior spreads like a virus, infecting the whole office.

Bully bosses communicate by losing their temper, yelling, and belittling their subordinates.  Often a bully boss will single out one employee to take out their negativity or aggression. If you’ve ever had to experience the abuse of a bully boss, you know how draining it can be.

However, the whole team will suffer at the hands of a bully boss, according to a new study by a team of researchers at Michigan State University. The study showed that the entire team suffers when a bully boss picks on just one employee.

How does the team suffer? Their productivity decreases as a direct result of verbal abuse and/or demeaning E-mails from the bully boss. Not only does a targeted employee suffer, but the whole team falls into conflicts which results in a loss of productivity.

“Teams characterized by relationship conflict,” lead investigator Crystal Farh said in a press release, “are hostile toward other members, mistreat them, speak to them rudely and experience negative emotions toward them.”

The whole group’s attitudes and behaviors start to reflect those of the bully boss as they act in a similar and hostile manner toward one another. The sobering truth is that everyone suffers at the hand of a bully boss.

When this happens, the company loses big time because now the whole team requires interpersonal relationships to be repaired. Trust among group members will have to be rebuilt as well.

Dictator Management Advocate – Be a Bad Boss just like Hitler

hitlerDictator Management Advocate – Be a Bad Boss Just like Hitler!

Here at Bad Boss we are starting a Dictator Management Advocacy. Learn how to be a good dictator and gain absolute power, as a BAD BOSS, right here! Muh ha ha ha ha. Muh ha ha!

First, you need to become an achiever and strive to be at the top in whichever department that you are currently working. Once you achieve your desired position, ultimately your goal should always be to strive to keep going up the corporate ladder until you eventually reach the top. But, until then here are some common dictator behaviors that you should adopt.

Cultivate some single-minded, greedy, and power hungry goals. “To succeed in your mission, you should have single-minded devotion to your goal” – Abdul Kalam. What are some examples of single minded goals, you say? The opposite of single mindedness is a team player. So, don’t be a team player. Only think of your own needs. Dismiss anyone with an inkling of an idea or any information that does not contribute to your single-minded goal.

Gather a group of only like-minded followers. Create fear or a problem so that your group of like-minded followers feel that they need you to correct the situation. One way to do this is by firing anyone who refuse to contribute, or object, to your single-minded goal. Become lacking in any form of human nature. Don’t tolerate ANY unconformity. Have meetings in which you are the head, main speaker, disallowing any collaboration of thought or understanding by discouraging questions.

Definitely dismiss anyone with a higher level of education or experience. They are ultimately a threat! They will in some way take away your power at some point in your single-minded goal-path and must be eliminated immediately! You only want facilitators, or brainless promoters, as your followers. Only recruit and retain those who accept your power and decisions unquestioningly. Keep your followers stupid and under your thumb!

If something goes wrong; learn some coping mechanisms like yelling to gain compliance. Find yourself a scapegoat within your clan of robots. This person will take the blame for anything that goes wrong with your dictatorship. This covers your butt and guarantees your future. Because no one should ever know that you could possibly make a mistake. Remember, followers are key to your dictatorship. However, you need to always maintain strict order with your followers so that your superiors are convinced that you have everything under control.

Speaking of superiors, you should be gaining their loyalties by showering them with an unwavering brown nosing attitude. Always be out to impress and kiss their butt. Whenever possible, try to wine & dine them. With your responsibilities, have your ducks in a row. There are never problems; you have all the answers and solutions. You are the only one responsible for success. You take all the credit as the mastermind behind everything; and failures are always attributable to your scape goat.

You are now unstoppable!

King Joffrey is My Bad Boss HERO! – Game of Thrones

King Joffrey

King Joffrey is My Bad Boss HERO! – Game of Thrones

King Joffrey is my bad boss hero! His Game of Thrones character can teach us a lot about how to get ahead of the corporate game early, secure the best career adviser,  be a bad boss; or the office tyrant:

Get ahead of the game early. – Claw your way to the top before anyone else! Use any means necessary to secure your position. So what you if you don’t know how to lead, you can learn later. Because, everything you already know came from your mother; which brings us to our second point.

Learn the best strategies from your mother. – Since you’ve secured your position early, you will need to call your mom to discuss any work-related questions. Do not rely on your own work experiences or  critical thinking skills, because at this point you have none. Trust no one else but your mom; in fact…

Violence solves problems. – Since you are such an inexperienced leader, you will need to use violence to secure your authority and power from position. Your mom likes drama, so this behavior should please her.

Anyone who has wisdom or morality above your own deserves scorn. – These people should be seen as a threat. Their scholarly opinions, goodwill, and kindness makes you look bad. No one deserves our respect or honor.

Whine about everything! – If your project or anything in your department fails, go on the defense.

  • “Don’t look at me!”
  • “It’s ugly out there!”
  • “I don’t want to talk about it!”

Ill-Treatment is deserving of those who are beneath us. –

  • “Fire him! Fire all of them; I command it!”
  • “Go back out there and do your job!”

Tattling to upper management to get rid of competition. – If anyone becomes a threat, or you just don’t like them, go to upper management and tell them a story; even if you have to make one up.

Break Promises. Say one thing; and do the complete opposite. Tell your subordinate they did a great job on the task; you will let upper management know about it, but don’t. Offer a raise to increase productivity; & then go back on your word. Say they can have the day off; but then schedule them for the shift.

…and finally…

Don’t accept insults, always remind them who is boss…
